USA Today reports that views of the consumer-generated ads on the Doritos Crash the Super Bowl website have exceeded 4 million. If you wanted to re-“live the flavor”, you still can, the site is still up.
You can also view the ads on YouTube. I took a quick check of the view counts on YouTube and the 2 Doritos spots are up around 2 million views now. (none of the game's other advertisers with spots on YouTube come close) The clips are also still up on iFilm, but there’s only been about 200,000 views there. CBS Sportsline and AOL Sports still have the videos on their sites, but neither of them post view counts.
At least 6.2 million views of the ad online... looks like the bar has been set for the 2008 game.
It is worth taking a look at the USA Today article, they offer a list of the 10 things you can do to make your consumer-generated ad contests work. The list includes:
1: Do your homework
2: Get a good lawyer
3: Offer carrot
4: Let your audience play, too
5: Be easy to find
6: Woo would-be Scorseses
7: Keep it simple
8: Make it a conversation
9: Lay down the law
10: Then let go.
