Today's USA Today story "Time is running out on available Super Bowl ad slots" mentions that Planters, Sony Picture, Unilever and Audi will have spots in the game.
Planters Peanuts will be advertising in the game for the first time. Planter's senior director of marketing Allan Lindsay said in this USA Today article, "The Super Bowl is clearly the place to talk to men. It's a big splash that aligns very well to the consumers we want to reach. And it's a big snacking occasion, as well."
Planters may be jumping in now because Emerald Nuts has decided not to participate this year.
Movies are going to be a big part of the game this year. As I mentioned in this post, a Fox spokesperson indicated that there will be 15 movie ads this year, up from 3 last year. The reason for all this interest is that Fox has set up a celebrity red carpet interview area before the game with host Ryan Seacrest. Stars from the films being advertised will get plenty of on-air exposure to talk up their new releases during the extensive pre-game show.
Sony hasn’t indicated which films will be featured. Some of their early 2008 releases include Untraceable, Vantage Point, The Other Boleyn Girl, 21, and Prom Night.
Unilever hasn’t commented about which brand will be featured this year. They’ve been in recent games with Degree deodorant, Slimfast and Dove. The Dove “Campaign for Real Beauty” ad in 2006 is seen by some as one of the most memorable Super Bowl ads ever.
Audi is returning to the game after a 20 year absence.
