While the Patriots are trying to set a record on the field, Anheuser Bush will be setting one on TV. AdAge reports that the king of beers is planning to run 7 spots for Bud Light this year, making it the most advertised brand in a single Super Bowl broadcast.
We known for some time that Anheuser Bush had been planning 9 ads, but it is somewhat of a surprise that they are dedicating 7 of those to a single brand. AdAge points to increased sales of Coors Light and Miller Lite as factors driving this decision. The other two ads will be a 60 second spot featuring the Clydesdales and one for responsible drinking.
The final ad lineup has not yet been set. The company is currently testing about 20 spots with a variety of focus groups across the country. Today's WSJ talks about a couple spots that are getting great reviews from focus groups but probably won't make the cut because the company thinks they go a little to far for the broader Super Bowl audience.
Bud Light ads are known for their slapstick humor so be prepared for a lot of lowbrow hijinks that get a lot of laughs. Bud Light had 5 spots last year, and all of them ranked in the top 10 of USA Today’s Ad Meter.
Here’s one the kids in my house are still talking about…
