Doritos announced the three finalists for their Super Bowl ad contest this morning. Of all the music types represented in the top 10, two of the finalists are solo acoustic performances and one is a hip hop song.
You can cast a vote a day for your favorite on the "Crash the Super Bowl" Myspace page. Voting on the final three is open until Jan 27. Frito-Lay’s agency will create a 60 second music video of all three finalists and the winning song will air as Doritos' ad during the game. The winner will also receive a record contract Interscope Geffen A&M Records.
If you haven't been following this story, this contest is a follow up to last year's popular consumer-generated ad contest won by Dale Backus. That campaign was a great success. In our analysis of media coverage and social media discussions last year, Doritos had the 3rd highest share of voice of all the advertisers in the game. This year Doritos running another contest for their Super Bowl ad. This time they are looking for a song, and it doesn't have to be about the brand. They are looking for an original song “inspired by the musician's passion and creativity based on his or her own bold or intense experiences”.
